Practical Ayurveda: Three Pillars

Integrated Auditory Training

What is Integrated Auditory Training?

Integrated Auditory Training combines passive and active listening activities with balance, movement and visual motor activities to support balance in the Central Nervous System and improve mental processing. I use the iLs approach to support clients in improving body, mind and life skills related to sensory-motor, communication, focus, energy, and confidence.

How long must I train in order to see results? And will the results last?

Generally, long term results can be attained in 30 sessions. The results will not be lost in most cases, but many will benefit from additional training. Some clients will need more training, depending on their specific issues (e.g. autism), but 30 sessions will produce positive results. Most of the training can be done at home with a rented or purchased unit, which reduces the cost of training, depending on how much time you're willing to devote to it. There are two phases in this type of Auditory Training, a Receptive Phase, which involves listening to filtered and full spectrum music through bone conduction headphones, and an Expressive Phase, which builds on our ability to listen to ourselves and others and to communicate more freely.

What happens in Integrated Auditory Training?

  • Before training commences, you will be asked to complete a confidential personal history form. It is necessary to know about any trauma or learning/development issues before training begins. In particular, your personal goals for training (or for your child's training) must be clear.
  • In our first session, an assessment will be performed. This assessment, in conjunction with the personal history form and your individual goals, plays an important role in determining the most appropriate support protocol. At this time, I will review the equipment (if using a rental unit) and provide a written overview of the training plan and costs. The training plan may need to be adjusted as we go along.
  • During the training, though part of the Receptive Phase may be completed away from the office, I'll check in at key points by phone to evaluate progress and adjust the training plan, as necessary.
  • Before the Expressive Phase begins, and/or on conclusion of training, another assessment will be performed to determine improvement.
